Belinda is a prolific quiltmaker—she has made numerous "Lazy Gal" and "Housetop" variations, sometimes combining them by putting a "Lazy Gal" medallion in the center of a "Housetop." Many of them are made of the decorator and home furnishing fabrics that have become widely available to Gee's Bend quiltmakers in recent years. She carries on the tradition of improvisation within the tradition of bold geometries. "I never did like looking at no books, no patterns," Belinda says. "I liked to be on my own. I never even liked to make two of them alike. I wanted them different."
