Lucas's found-metal sculpture Saturday Night Special was at one time attached to the front porch of his own house next to the front door, where he himself would be its primary intended audience. It depicts a man playing a guitar, but based on the title, it could also signify a man holding a rifle or machine gun. Lucas explained that the pictured man is telling himself that he's dangerous, that when a man goes out partying on a Saturday night-dancing, drinking, and carousing—the excesses inherent in being a "Good Time Charlie" frequently lead to violence. Like nearly all of Lucas's pieces, this one is autobiographical and intended as a personal warning to himself and others.
