Description

A large early work on paper appears concerned with the treat to Murray’s physical body portended by a medical diagnosis, and is perhaps a warning about the dangers of prostate cancer. On the right are the invaded parts of the body–intestines and glands. The left side identifies still-healthy areas–genitals and perhaps bones. The entire work is adorned with positive colors and heavily inscribed with writing and crosses. On the reverse side is one of Murray’s most elaborate calligraphic “explanations” of a piece. He had fashioned a complex diagram of a malaise and a method for effecting healing of it or additional protection from it.
