St. Helena's women, real and imaginary, provided a variety of enjoyable subjects for Doyle. There was Rocking Mary—anyone who knew or heard of Rocking Mary would undoubtedly recognize this bare-breasted, pipe-smoking figure wearing bright red polka-dot shorts and cap. And in case they did not, Doyle has incorporated her name into the picture in the same red paint.
