Linda Pettway often favors preprinted fabrics in geometric configurations. She particularly likes the "Housetop" pattern, as its outcome is assured. "Most of my quilts are the 'Housetop' kind," she says. "I start in the middle. Make the middle piece; strip the sides, top, bottom; keep going 'round the sides. I be knowing where I'm going." Her enthusiasm for the pattern is shared by her daughters Lucy Witherspoon and Gloria Hoppins and her niece Annette Pettway, all of whom have done versions of the "Housetop" quilt.
