Minnie Sue Coleman
About
Minnie Sue Coleman learned to quilt from her mother, Minder Coleman. Minder was one of Gee’s Bend’s leading citizens, having served as president of Gee’s Bend Farms, the agricultural cooperative established in the 1930s by the Farm Security Administration, which organized farming and weaving cooperatives during the Great Depression. As a gifted quiltmaker herself, Minder would later be involved with the Freedom Quilting Bee.
Her c. 1970 "Pig in a Pen" quilt appeared on a US Postage stamp in 2006 and is now in the permanent collection of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
